DIVE, CHILL, DIVE, CHILL, DIVE

During your leisure hours on Atlantis Azores you can bask in the sun, soothe your muscles in the Jacuzzi or browse the excellent collections of books, videos and music.  The Azores features a partially covered sun deck with chase lounges, complete wet bar, hot tub on the top deck … along with the spacious master suite.   The main deck features a large salon and separate dining room as well as the roomy dive deck and swim platform, where you find warm freshwater showers.  On the lower deck, you’ll find 7 more cabins.

For photographers, a large three-tier camera table is available on the dive deck along with a charging station.  All divers have their own storage area for dive equipment and most dives are done from two zodiacs with a short ride to dives sites. Technical diving and rebreather diving is possible if prearranged. Easy cruises each evening will take you from one great dive site to another.

On most Azores itineraries, you are close enough to land to have cellular and data (email) coverage.  The Tubbataha itinerary is further from land and cellular coverage so the boat offers guests the ability to send and receive emails using satellite communication for a small fee.

The boat has a reputation for excellent cuisine using local products . . . with the chef’s fresh-baked bread being an extra special treat every day.  Lunches and dinners are served family style and include fresh seafood, Philippine favorites, and a selection of pastas, salads and homemade soups. There’s a snack and drinks bar open all day, beer and wine are complimentary with dinner.

The final itinerary is, of course, always dependant upon weather, sea conditions and where the best animal sightings are at any particular time of year

Itinerary information:

Tubbataha Reefs – mid-March to early June:  This marine park is under the strict protection of rangers all year round to ensure that the nations doesn’t lose the spectacular reefs and marine life in this region. You can expect to see sponges nearly as large as the passing whale sharks, giant sea fans and delicate soft corals.  The coral gardens attract schooling sweetlips, bumphead parrotfish. and batfish but you’ll also dive vertiginous walls with hanging gardens filled with critters.  There will be plenty of “the big stuff” as these waters offer ample interactions with manta rays, turtles, jacks, schools of barracuda, hammerheads, tiger shark and, yes, whale sharks

Bohol – In Moalboal, Pescador Island offers a stunning wall teeming with life plus the exhilarating “sardine run” and a good chance of seeing a thresher.  Oslob features a thrilling morning of whale shark snorkelling which is followed by Sumilon Island, surrounded by crystal clear waters and pristine white sandy beaches, exquisite coral gardens and drop-offs.  Balicasag Island a big fish destination … jacks, mackerel and barracudas, large groupers, napoleon wrasses and snappers hiding in the overhangs of the dramatic multi-hundred foot vertical walls. Good critter shots in the wall plus sharks, eagle & manta rays. Apo Island more superb walls, an abundance of fish and impressive critters.

Malapascua & Cebu – The Malapascua – Cebu route offers some of the best diving in the Philippines, including Sumilon Island, Pescador Island & Malapascua’s Gato Island, home of a  protected breeding sanctuary. You’ll also visit Monad Shoal, known for thresher sharks & manta rays. But, Malapascua also offers a wide variety of critter diving not to mention abundant reefs and wall diving. The trip includes Bohol, with its spectrum of reef, wall & critter diving as well as some land tour opportunities.

Apo Reef & Wrecks of Coron –  This itinerary generally spends 2 days at UNESCO heritage site, Apo Reef, followed by 3 and a half days exploring a variety of wrecks. Apo Reef is known for white tip and black tip reef sharks. Manta rays are sometimes spotted here & you can count on hawksbill turtles, bumphead parrot fish, huge schools of snappers and tuna…. and eagle rays. Before moving on to the wrecks, there’s an optional visit to Coron’s hot springs. Coron is well-known to wreck divers. You’ll explore WWII Japanese shipwrecks, including the Okikawa Maru, the Olympia Maru, the East Tangat Gunboat and many more  … all of which are covered in coral and teeming with fish & critters.
