A Blend Of Traditional Elegance & Modern Convenience

Constructed entirely of wood in the traditional Indonesian style this lovely vessel offers a beautiful interior of specially selected teak. But, underlying her traditional charm are all the modern conveniences you expect on a first class liveaboard.

Wellenreng takes only 6 guests but was designed to ensure a feeling of space. Her sun deck, located just in front of the bridge, is comfortably furnished with beanbags & super-comfy lounge chairs This is the ideal position for sunbathing. Or, you can relax, just a half-level down, under a canopy, settling into comfortable sofas or deck chairs. The central space on this deck is your alfresco dining area. In front of this. on the long bow area, is more comfortable lounging. Just behind the alfresco dining area sits the 25 square-meter salon with adjoining small bar. Coffee, tea and other non-alcoholic refreshments are always available during the day. It is here, also, that the diving briefings will take place. In the evening, films or the diving photos of the day can be watched using the large flat screen. Or you can enjoy listening to music or reading.

Between dives there are lots of options for activities: snorkelling, kayaking, fishing (outside the National Parks), sleeping in the hammock …. of course, working on your photos … plus occasional land visits are planned.

You’ll begin your day with the delicious aroma of freshly roasted Indonesian coffee & freshly baked bread as well as a selection of seasonal fruits. During the day, the menu will include international cuisine, local specialtie and fresh fish according to your preferences. Interior & exterior dining are both available.

On request you may sleep on mattresses on deck for a night under the stars. If you are searching for the ideal liveaboard for a small group charter, the Wellenreng is truly a superb option.

Itineraries

Wellenreng does not have regularly scheduled departure dates. She offers custom charters to small groups …. so start planning your itinerary now!

Possible itineraries include some of the most popular regions of Indonesia & the surrounding area, including Borneo, Kalimantan & Raja Ampat.  Trips to specific regions are, of course, based on the best time of year to experience the region’s finest diving

Kalimantan diving is quite spectacular but still pretty unknown. Wellenreng is the perfect host for getting acquainted with this special region.

  • Derawan Island – The shallow waters around this inhabited island are the home of giant turtles and small creatures … a true paradise for macro lovers. Look out for the giant jawfish, a variety of impressive nudibranches, stargazers and seahorses.
  • Maratua Island – Deep drop offs, channels with ripping currents and a huge quiet lagoon define the diving here. In addition, you get large pelagics in the blue (grey reef sharks, tresher sharks, eagle rays and gargantuan clouds of barracudas.
  • Kakaban Island & Jelly Fish Lake – Around 1 hour from Maratua is a unqiue “Jelly Fish Lake” … similar to the one in Palau. Millions of jellyfish (no, they don’t sting) will delight you … and you’ll enjoy the mangroves which are covered by sponges, anemones and shellfish. After a visit to the lake, it’s back to the ocean for a cleaning station for thresher sharks and blacktip sharks.
  • Sangalaki – A tropical island surrounded by shallow reefs and coral gardens, Sangalaki is known for its manta cleaning station and the turtle hatching station on the island.
The deep south – South of Maratua there is an atoll with yet another thresher shark cleaning station, some wonderful drop offs covered with huge sea fans and soft corals and more sites waiting to be discovered.
  • The whale shark pangas – Closer to the mainland are the fishing pangas of Berau which attract whale sharks who “sneak” into the area to munch a bit of the nightly catch of the fishermen. It is an early morning adventure only, but something you will never forget.

Raja Ampat – Bespoke itineraries are offered to the best dives Raja Ampat has to offer. Raja Ampat is not only famous for his amazing reefs, but also offers plenty of big stuff like manta rays, mobula rays, schools of humphead parrotfish, sweetlips or various sharks like the Walking Shark and the Wobbegong.  Within the reefs, of course, you’ll find outlandish critters like the deadly blue-ringed octopus, the funny wunderpus, mating mandarinfishes, the weird ghostpipefish, beautiful nudibranches and a wide range of pygmy seahorses.
