Blue Spirit

MV Blue Spirit, one of our long-time favorites, is a comfortable option with a high level of service for a maximum of 12 guests. She specializes in the best of Maldives central atolls.

A word from Dom … “One of the best things about the Blue Spirit is her size. For one thing, she can moor in the smaller lagoons while the bigger vessels which carry 20 to 30 people or more have to stay outside the reef. Also, Blue Spirit takes a maximum of 12 divers giving you a great sense of adventure and exploration. This is diving as it used to be … a fabulous crew, friendly, personal attention, flexible & exciting itineraries ! ” Dominick Macan

Refreshingly Intimate

The partially covered top deck is fantastic for sun bathing, lounging in the shade or viewing the rich Maldives sunsets.

The roomy main deck features a dining room & large salon where you’ll find a DVD library, including a good selection of documentaries plus a library of marine identification books and a swap library for some light reading. At the rear of the vessel, on this deck, you’ll also find comfy outdoor seating and a set-up for outdoor dining.

The chef, who has been with M/V Blue Spirit for years, serves a mouth-watering mixture of local and Western cuisines

For photographers, the saloon has ample storage for cameras and recharging points. All diving, of course, is done from a Maldivian dhoni, a smaller vessel which accompanies the Spirit.

Travel & Cruise Logistics

Most of the trips begin and end in Male and the closest airport is Male Intl (MLE). Pickup time at the airport is according to your flights. Give yourself enough time to go through immigration and pick up your luggage. At the exit of the terminal a crew member will meet and escort you to Blue Spirit . The boat departs as soon as everybody is on board.

Your last dives will be on the second to last day in the morning. Blue Spirit docks back in Male in the evening on the second to last day and disembarkation is early the following morning. You  will then be transferred to Male airport.

This schedule is altered for Deep South trips which include a domestic flight one way.  Full info for these trips is available upon request.

Itineraries

Blue Spirit generally cruises the Central & North Central Atolls (including Baa) adding in the occasional Far South Itinerary when the season is right. Her itineraries are often themed but each trip will be set based on the season, the weather and the sea conditions.

The final itinerary is, of course, always dependent upon weather, sea conditions and where the best animal sightings are at any particular time of year

Itineraries include:

Best of Central Atolls : Central Atolls – 7 nights … North and South Male Atolls, North and South Ari Atolls, Baa Atoll and Lhaviyani Atoll.  You’ll find channels, lagoons, caves, drop-offs, massive coral tables & superb pelagic action.  Manta rays & a variety of sharks,  including whale sharks & hammerheads in season, are regular visitors.

Best of Central Atolls with Baa: Central Atolls with Baa – 12 nights …Same as above … but, add Baa Atoll, a submerged pinnacle, which is exceptional for its incredible overhangs covered with splendid coral gardens with scintillating colors. You will swim directly beneath this amazing ceiling of glowing coral life.  And, when you’ve had enough of corals, you can move on to Baa Atoll’s other attraction, the manta rays, as this is one of the best sites in the Maldives for viewing these magnificent beauties.

Best of Southern Atolls: Male to Addu Atoll (or the reverse).10 nights …This is big fish & shark territory. You can expect channels, reef plateaus, walls, cliffs & drop-offs … soft corals … moray eels, lionfish, squirrelfish, red snapper, mackerel, schools of triggerfish and fusiliers … Napoleons & schools of big fish like trevallies, tuna and jacks … eagle rays & sting rays … whitetip reef sharks, gray reef sharks. silky sharks, nurse sharks and even tiger sharks.
