Elegant, Sophisticated, Refined, Delightful

The main deck has a large table and cozy seating area, situated under an expansive sun awning, which provides the perfect spot for enjoying the scenery while cruising. The forward deck is fitted with comfortable cushions for reading, relaxing and sunbathing or having one of Adelaar’s famous Gin & Tonics and dining al fresco.

The beautifully decorated interior of Adelaar is classic teak wood paneling. The high ceilings throughout the vessel give her an extra spacious feeling. The interior salon & dining area offers flat screen TV connected to the ship’s video and audio streaming system with access to movies, pictures and songs … and the same access is available on flat screens in the cabins. The exquisite master suite comes with an extravagant amount of space.

Two more cabins are equally spacious, with a desk and couch that can serve as a bed while the fourth stateroom is a bit smaller but equally luxurious. All come with decadent en-suite marble bathrooms. Below deck at cabin level, there are two work stations, a lounging couch and a small game table as well as the bar and guest beverage refrigerator.

Gourmet meals are often served a la cart in the main dining salon where large windows provide a panoramic view. When conditions are right, the main-deck exterior dining area affords an al fresco dining experience under the large sun awning. Your 4-course meals are prepared by a European-trained chef using the freshest and finest ingredients the chef can gather from markets along the way and trusted suppliers.

Captivating "Past Life"

Built by Staadskanal Shipyards in Zaandam, Holland, in 1902 as a cargo ship the stunningly beautiful schooner, Adelaar, sailed between England, Sweden, Norway and Russia, propelled only by the wind. During World War II, she was confiscated by the Germans and used to transport war goods. Then, her history became more intriguing, imbued with a touch of mystery. She ended up in East Berlin (yes!) and made her final mysterious move in 1981, when the owners managed to sail her out of the east into the western world. They began extensive restoration of the vessel at the very same shipyard in Holland where the ship was originally built. By chance, an old man recognized the vessel as Adelaar … a ship which his father had built 80 years earlier. She won the New Zealand Tall Ship Race in 1988 and has been working in Indonesia since 1994 as a luxury dive liveaboard.

Itineraries

Most of Adelaar’s trips are in the Komodo Archipelago but she has added Alor to her regularly scheduled destinations. In addition, she offers some very special “themed” itineraries (corals, mantas, whale sharks) and is also available for private group charters to Sumba and Savu as well as to south Sulawesi and  Raja Ampat.  Just ask us for information. We will be happy to arrange a special charter for your group.

Adelaar signature Komodo itinerary – 10 nights Bali to Bali  … There are seamounts, walls, canyons and pinnacles as well as the spectacular coral gardens.  There a hot spring at an underwater volcano, great night dives on black sand slopes.  At each dive site, you’ll experience something different.  Komodo is perhaps the most diverse of all diving in the Indonesian archipelago.

Alor itinerary – 11 nights Maumere (Flores) to Maumere  …  In Alor, you’ll find pristine waters full of masses of fish, loads of invertebrates … and more of those alluring critters.  As to topography, you’ll find shear drops, huge pinnacles, great walls  … all covered with rich & thriving corals which attract diverse fish life.  Add to that, visiting pelagics and you have a magical mix.

Manta Ray Special ….  Mantas are regularly encountered in the Komodo National Park but one of Adelaar’s routes is slightly adjusted to spend more time in areas of Komodo preferred by mantas.  A marine biologist joins these special trips & talks about the work in the field and what is being done to protect these elegant and graceful creatures. The Manta special itinerary varies depending on the season and the availability of a specialist.

Coral Reef Special …  On these special cruises, a coral specialist will lead a course about corals, give workshops and offer identification games, as well as take you on an excursion to a coral rehabilitation center on the North coast of Sumbawa.

Whale sharks Special  … Twice a year, a marine biologist from Conservation International joins Adelaar to visit a group of whale sharks. You can attend presentations about their work with Indonesia’s whale shark population, the tagging process and how you can help them in their endeavors. The whale shark excursions are a part of Adelaar’s Bali-Komodo routes. Each departure timed to coincide with a new moon, which is apparently the best time for an encounter.

Travel & Cruise Logistics

By departing from Bali, Adelaar allows you to avoid traveling on the local inter-island flights which can be problematic due to erratic scheduling. The round-trip from and to Bali avoids the potential problems. You can taxi to your hotel from Bali’s International Airport, which has a taxi counter located just outside the arrival hall. The rates are fixed and you prepay there at the counter. Or, we can arrange a private car and driver if you would like to be met at the airport and taken to your hotel. Someone from the Adelaar staff will contact you at your hotel to confirm last minute details. To get to the boat, you can organize a transfer with the concierge at your hotel or if you prefer, we can arrange a private car and driver.
