This is a tropical hideaway island that really deserves this accolade. A palm tree filled island surrounded by top tier diving spots, with an impeccable service. And an ice machine!
The island’s surrounding waters are part of the Coral Triangle, renowned for its astounding marine biodiversity. Virgin Cocoa Maratua provides easy access to world-class diving and snorkeling spots, where vibrant coral reefs, manta rays, sea turtles, and schooling barracudas await exploration.
Guests can savor authentic delicious Indonesian dishes while contributing to the preservation of the island’s fragile ecosystem. It’s more than a getaway—it’s an invitation to experience unspoiled nature in harmony.
When we got to Virgin Cocoa Maratua, the day started with diving in the crystal-clear housee reef, spotting sea turtles and vibrant fish just steps from the resort. There is a ton of not just hard but also soft coral. A bit further out with the dingy, there are world class divesites such as jellyfish lake and kepala dua with magnificent wall diving.
As the tide was low, we walked along the exposed sandy stretches, finding tiny crabs and unique shells while the ocean gently lapped and got a stretched overview of the wonderfully deserted paradise surroundings.
Mornings were peaceful, especially with yoga on the beach as the sun rose over the horizon. One afternoon, we crossed the wooden bridge to the neighboring island, taking in the lush scenery and feeling like I was discovering a hidden paradise.
Evenings were simple and perfect—fresh food, a light breeze, and quiet moments under a sky full of stars. Virgin Cocoa was all about slowing down and soaking up the beauty around.
