SOLID & WELCOMING WITH LOADS OF SPACE & LOTS OF CREW

Wallacea Dive Cruises, which owns Ambai, was created in 2002 by a French-Indonesian couple, Suryani Mile and Jérôme Doucet, who remain the sole owners of the operation. Like many of the other Indonesian liveaboards, this is a passion and personal lifestyle choice. Suryani and Jérôme also devoted to environmental protection projects. Ambai was designed by Jérôme to have a comfortable, relaxed & friendly feeling. There are normally 16 to 18 crew on a boat of 16 divers. And, for our French clients, it’s nice to note that you’ll find French-speaking crew members.

The decor is bright and lively everywhere on the boat, truly capturing the flavor of Indonesia.  On the upper (bridge) deck, you’l find two of the good-sized cabins with the remainder of the cabins located on the lower deck.  The bridge deck also features, at the front of hte vessel, a charming exterior lounge with options for sun & shade. The main deck hosts yet aother lovely shaded lounge … plus sun space directly on the bow.   You can choose to hang out in these exterior areas or move into the air-conditioned restaurant/salon on the main deck where you’ll find a full entertainment system with TV, DVD, music system, books, magazines and games  The restaurant also serves as the place to brief divers before each dive.  At the rear of the main deck, a large dive deck offers an easy and direct access to the dive platform that can receive all of our 3 dive tenders at the same time.

Photographers will enjoy a dedicated room for the maintenance and preparation of their camera.

ITINERARIES

Ambai’s itineraries include:  Raja Ampat  …  Komodo  …  Banda Sea  … Triton Bay  … Sulawesi  … Halmahera {slider Itineraries & map ….. open |dest|closed}

Raja Ampat  …  Raja Ampat, known for its extraordinary diversity of species of fish, corals, and mollusks, also offers sites which border on the blue & feature plenty of pelagics -black & white tip sharks, multiple tuna species, barracudas & wrasse. You’ll find sites with “swarms” of fish; one with dancing manta rays, and others others with schools of sweetlips, snappers, parrotfish & humpback groupers.  Nearly everywhere, you get the brilliantly colored giant gorgonians, sponges & other corals … plus astonishing creatures the eyes can’t believe.

Komodo  … Home to fabulous soft corals & reef fish, plus sharks & mantas enough to make every dive an adventure, in the opinion of many divers Komodo is the pen-ultimate diving experience in Indonesia.  With each dive site in the Komodo National Park, you will experience something different, as this is perhaps the most diverse range of sites in the Indonesian chain. The peaceful coral reefs are pristine and attract an incredible variety of splendid reef fish. But there are also dive sites with strong currents, bringing plankton-rich waters and the pelagics which feed on them . . . tuna, jacks, barracudas, beautiful rays & plentiful sharks.

Banda Sea  …  As to the diving in the Banda Sea and Alor regions, you’ll experience vertical walls & drop offs, pristine reef, volcanic vents – and you’ll see more critters as well as massive barrel sponges, plenty of pelagics, an immense population of sea snakes – even a wreck dive. In Alor, you’ll find pristine waters full of masses of fish, loads of invertebrates … and scads of alluring critters.  As to topography, you’ll find shear drops, huge pinnacles, great walls  … all covered with rich & thriving corals which attract diverse fish life.  Add to that, visiting pelagics and you have a magical mix.
