           Wakatobi Resort

Wakatobi Details

THE RESORT

Situated in a remote paradise region north of Bali in Indonesia, Wakatobi Resort sports many claims to fame amongst amateur and professional divers alike.  This is a distinctly first-class experience.

A spectacular house-reef just yards from the resort's splendid white-sand beach with multiple
dive sites that never fail to amaze

Some of the finest coral gardens you'll find anywhere in the world

Critters galore, representing a vast array of species and diversity

Proximity to dozens of other top-notch dive sites, accessible by means of a fleet of Wakatobi's five
    60-70 foot dive boats

A restaurant featuring haute-cuisine in a stunning natural setting

A spa facility for your leisure hours

And . . . this is the home of the beautiful Pelagian luxury liveaboard, allowing you to mix resort and
liveaboard experience in one dive vacation, should you choose

Thanks to the philosophy allowing divers a maximum of freedom & independence (within practical limits) you'll enjoy extra time in the water and at the hours you prefer.

And, perhaps the icing on the cake in today's environment of concern about impact of tourism and the health of our oceans, is the Wakatobi commitment to both conservation and community. Their program is long-standing and award-winning.

THE ACCOMMODATION
Nothing but the best for you in this deluxe resort.  26 Individual bungalows and villas, all with private bath, accommodate a maximum of 52 guests in remarkable luxury.

Traditional Indonesian style graced with all the finest of modern comforts mark the hotel accommodation. With a 3 to 1 guest to staff ratio, the quality of service make will make your stay unforgettable.

The Wakatobi Villas perched on a rocky ledge with superb views, are spacious villas, great for couples looking for a bit of extra “holiday“ luxury.

Select Beach Bungalows as their name implies, are beach-front accommodation and are simply gorgeous, with large decks and magnificent views.

Standard Beach Bungalows also offer ocean views, with luscious balconies. These are subject to the best breeze from the ocean, an excellent choice if you prefer to avoid air-conditioning.

Garden Bungalows are comfy cabana-style bungalows, located in a jungle setting slightly behind and in-between the front-row bungalows . Some have a partial ocean view.

All accommodation includes air-conditioning.

THE DIVING
The list is so long that it's difficult to know where to begin, but it's important to note that this is a destination famous amongst photographers for incredible macro photography - which if course translates to a wealth of coral and small creatures.

You'll see larger creatures, too, such as turtles, sting rays, eagle rays and mantas.  You'll see frogfish and soldier fish and trumpet fish.  There will be bannerfish, angelfish, anemone fish, gobies, mandarin fish, lionfish, scorpion fish, cuttlefish, ghost pipefish, pygmy seahorses, lobsters, crabs, shrimps - and nudibranchs galore.

And, honestly, this is the tip of the iceberg.  You'll just have to see it to believe it . . . .

WHAT'S INCLUDED?
Accommodation, meals, coffee, tea and 4 to 5 dives per day.  Juices, sodas, beer and wine as well as cocktails, "mocktails" and specialty coffees are available at an additional cost.

EXTRAS AVAILABLE
Equipment rental, nitrox, re-breathers, trimix, massage

COMMUNICATIONS
GSM phones might work in the resort although the system is not always reliable so several satellite phones are available for emergency use.

There's also a PC available with Internet access in the lounge, there are LAN ports in every room, plus WIFI is now available and/or friends & family can send mail to: resort@wakatobi.com and the staff will deliver messages.

HOW TO GET THERE
After your international flight to Indonesia, you will want to overnight in Bali.  The charter flights to Wakatobi leave the island before any of the international flights arrive there so a connection is not possible. This gives you the advantage of resting after your long-haul flight and adjusting to the time change.  You might even want to consider a stay of 3-4 days in Bali to enjoy Bali's infinite charms.

When you're ready to move on to Wakatobi, you will be transferred on a private chartered plane to the resort's own airport. There are usually two planes in service - one leaves early in the morning and the other leaves around noon.

Your trip itinerancy and resort package will determine which flight you are scheduled to go on. The flight takes approximately two and a half hours. On board you will be served a snack and drinks while you enjoy the beautiful scenery of Lombok's Rinjani volcano and the offshore reefs and atolls en route to Wakatobi.

WHEN TO GO
Generally speaking there are two peak seasons: one between April and June and one between September and November. However, as in any tropical region, conditions vary from week to week and from year to year and Wakatobi is definitely a year-round destination.

January into March -cloudier than other months with some tropical showers that can add great drama to your evening - but still great diving.

March into June - calm seas with great visibility with May and June normally being amongst the very best months of the year to dive, with visibility often reaching 45 meters.

July and August - windier, a bit cooler, with less visibility but given the macro nature of the diving this is not an issue.

September through December - conditions return to those seen in May and June, with September / October offering the same marvelous general conditions. Humidity increases in November / December.

NON-DIVERS
Onemobaa Island, on which Wakatobi Resort is located, is roughly 8 square kilometers (3 square miles)so non-divers have plenty of space for walking, jogging, exploring.  There's a village at the opposite end of the island and behind the resort are shallow sink holes that can be enjoyed with snorkeling equipment and a dive light.

You'll find volleyball and badminton, board games, movies and a library of books. A television set with VCD and VHS players is located in the Longhouse lounge area, along with a CD/ cassette stereo system.

But best of all, you can lounge on the white-sand, tropical dream-beach and when you've had enough tanning, marvel at wonders of world-class snorkeling found on the house reef.
