                                                       The Alta

Details of the Alta

The spectacular sailing yacht M/S Alta has permits to dive Wolf & Darwin Islands from May through November, 2010 and has recently been fitted with nitrox compressor.

She’s been honored as Yacht of the Month by
Yachting Magazine and is one of the most beautiful ships in the Galapagos. Offering unique style, the Alta has spectacular detailing with the enchanting charm of a classic sailing ship.

She has loads of deck space and when conditions are right, the sails are hoisted, engines turned off, and Alta becomes a dream sailing vessel.

A 3-masted stay-sail schooner, she is 46 meters (140 feet) long and capable of 10 knots under power and 14 knots under sail.

Alta has 8 tastefully decorated cabins accommodating up to 16 passengers and all cabins are spacious with plenty of storage.  Each cabin has private facilities with fresh, hot and cold water showers.

The main salon is elegant and inviting and at meal time you can choose indoor or outdoor seating for your gourmet meal.  With her large decks, you’ll find plenty of sunning space between dives.

Stay tuned for details of dates, rates and itineraries for 2010 and click here for additional details about the boat.

IMPORTANT NOTE ON ITINERARIES: Quasar Expeditions' itineraries are subject to change without notice for various factors including but not limited to: safety, weather, mechanical breakdown, unforeseen emergencies, and the discretion of the Captain, Guide, Dive Master, Quasar Expeditions and the Galapagos National Park. Dives as scheduled may change depending on conditions, the ability of the divers and the judgement of the dive master on board.

Additional notes:
Pre-diving qualifications will be required for all divers in order to participate in all diving activities with Quasar Expeditions. Divers must fill out and review all dive documents provided by Quasar Expeditions.

The air compressor on the Alta will allow for sufficient air bottles for the 3 to 4 daily dives. Nitrox bottles will also be available during the trip for all divers at a cost of $100 for the week. If all 16 divers are using Nitrox, we will only be able to supply enough bottles for 2 nitrox dives per day. The other dives would have to be done with regular air.
