A Note
from Dom |

FeBrina is one of my personal favorite liveaboard
experiences. She's 72 foot long, fully air-conditioned
and fitted with everything a serious and adventurous
diver desires - plus she is captained by the
incomparable Captain Alan Raabe, Australian
extraordinaire . . . AND, following her re-fit she now
has all en-suite cabins!
FeBrina cruises from Walindi, also one of my
absolute favorites in the dive
resort category, which is located on the North Coast of New Britain,
Walindi. Highly recommended is a combination trip
on the boat and at the resort. See
Walindi
Plantation Resort
On FeBrina, you'll have the opportunity to dive
superbly remote sites, some which are very seldom
visited by divers. For divers and photographers
alike, this underwater habitat, which typically offers
fantastic visibility and prolific fish life is amongst
the very top diving experiences one can have on the
planet.
If you choose an itinerary which includes Rabaul, you
have the additional top-side excitement of an active
volcano! I recommend the land tour offered
by the crew, which gets you closer to the action and
explains the historical significance of this area,
particularly during the World War II era . . . . . It's
a nice compliment to your diving experience.
Cheers, Dom |

THE BOAT
FeBrina offers divers a comfortable and friendly
atmosphere and provides a highly
experienced crew. The operation is
very environmentally friendly, tying up
to permanent moorings on top of the reefs
thereby eliminating any damage to the delicate
underwater eco-systems.
She has plenty of
deck area and provides easy access to
your dive gear plus lots of room to kit up. The
crew will always happily lend a hand with
camera gear.
Sea worthy and very stable, FeBrina
has seven roomy twin share cabins with
ample storage space.

DIVING
& ITINERARIES
North Coast New Britain itineraries
.....
The Walindi/Walindi North Coast trip
is usually 10 nights and 8 & 1/2 days of
diving
and includes Kimbe Bay, Witu Islands and
Fathers Reefs.
Typically you begin with the
awe-inspiring reefs of Kimbe Bay with
its fabulous fan corals, sea whips, and
multitudes of other corals, plus
countless reef fish and invertebrates.
The Witu Islands, usually next on the
itinerary, provide both wide angle and
macro opportunities. In addition to
critters at the black sand beaches,
you’re likely to see great schools of
jacks and barracudas.
Moving east to the Father’s Reef system
you’ll learn that “The Father” is a
large extinct underwater volcano and
that you’ll be diving the outer edges of
the crater with its oceanic reef.
Generally you‘ll have impressive
visibility and plenty of pelagic action
- sharks, dog tooth tuna, barracuda and
spinner dolphins. (Captain Alan says
he’s been training a group of dolphins
for 21 years - those must be
well-trained animals - and you‘ll have a
chance to swim with the results!)
Rabaul–Walindi and Walindi–Rabaul
trips include visits to Walindi
reefs, Fathers Reefs, the area around
the Gazelle Peninsula and Rabaul.
The Rabaul area entices the diver with
beautiful reefs and spectacular critters
whose existence is at least partly due
to the currents converging from the
Solomon Sea and the Bismarck Sea,
creating interesting water temperature
changes and hence, highly unique and
fascinating critters.
At Sandra’s Jetty and Nonga Beach you
will find an astounding array of life -
frogfish, ghost pipefish, seahorses,
flying gunards, nudibranchs of every
shape, size and description.
Then at Father’s Reefs, you also get
lots of excitement with bigger fish and
your trip ends in Kimbe Bay and the
Walindi Reefs where you’ll explore what
Captain Alan calls “the drop dead
gorgeous reefs in the Bay.
South Coast New Britain itineraries
.....
The South Coast is totally different to
the other itineraries. Although
this itinerary offers a couple of
fantastic drift dives where you’ll get
some shark action, plus some sea mounts
which have the capacity to attract some
exciting big animals, the main action on
this cruise is NOT about big stuff or
sharks.
You want to get ready for exploring the
intensity of the reefs in this area,
many of which are still unexplored.
The area known as Lindenhaven has
lagoon-like features, with channels and
currents providing constant flushing
action. Also, it’s here where you find
yourself close to the Solomon Trench
(the third deepest part of the world’s
oceans at 32,000 feet) whose influence
adds to the immense number of unique
species in the area.
Along with a variety of unidentifiable
species, keep your eyes peeled for mimic
octopus, frogfish, dozens of different
varieties of ghost pipefish, jaw fish,
cuttlefish, arrow crabs, orangutan
crabs, leaf scorpion fish, bubble shells
and cowry shells, garden eels, Spanish
dancer and the dazzling list just goes
on . . . and on and on!
